5 best places to visit in Rio de Janeiro

Traveling to Rio de Janeiro for that Olympics and wondering what direction to go and find out in town when you're not cheering for your country? Or staying more time following your games? Here I'll provide you with some ideas.

rio de janeiro brazil

For many people, Rio can be a once in a lifetime destination. What exactly I recommend on this page can be a cliche for skilled travelers, but when it's the first amount of time in the location and you're unsure if you'll ever turn back, these are the basic places to go to in Rio de Janeiro:

Copacabana

Copacabana is Rio de Janeiro's most popular neighborhood and where a lot of the hotels are placed. Today most cariocas (those who are born in Rio) don't visit the beach there, because the beach is loaded with tourists whenever through the day. But they still make use of the oceanfront avenue to exercise (and you will observe how serious they go on it!).

Still, it's essential go place. I'm sure you'd rather mingle together with the locals, but Copacabana captures the essence of Rio. You've probably heard that soft and lightweight Brazilian music style called Bossa Nova Or maybe you don't recognize the name, but make a fusion of samba and jazz Well, it was born here.

Take time to drink a coconut water in one of the kiosks. Or return at night when several kiosks offer live music

At the sea, have a look at your left. Depending on your location, you will observe the Sugarloaf mountain. On the right the thing is that the Forte de Copacabana, a historical fortress created to protect Rio from foreign invaders. You might also need an amazing view following that. There's a smaller entrance fee (even though you're just visiting the cafe), but it's worth a trip.

Also, if you want stand-up paddling, the area nearby the fortress is great! You can have a quick lesson and go for a trip sailing in just minutes!

At night (the moment it gets dark) there's two feirinhas (local handicrafts sales) locally: one nearby the Othon Palace Hotel and yet another at Praa do Lido. There you will find souvenirs and Brazilian memorabilia.

Sugarloaf

That is one particular images generally linked to Rio: the cable car going in one mountain to the other. Company, the scene from on the websites for is amazing.

As lots of people easily fit into the identical cable car, normally you don't wait too much lined up (I do believe a long I waited was ready 30 min). Bear in mind: you will have to catch 4 cable cars: 2 increasing and two heading down. So on weekends and holidays the 30 min may turn into 2 hours. Nevertheless, it's worth every penny.

The initial cable car walks you to Morro da Urca. There are numerous events there throughout the year (a New Years celebration), so take a look at their internet site beforehand if you'd go for a much more exclusive and unique experience. When you're up for events or perhaps you make a reservation with the Cota 200 restaurant, most often you don't need to purchase a ticket until Morro da Urca. But always ask ahead of time.

A good time through the day to get a visit? It doesn't really matter. In daytime the views are gorgeous, early evening you can observe an amazing sunset along with the night it's also really nice to see a different Rio de Janeiro.

Christ the Redeemer

When my better half first visited Rio alone he didn't head to Christ the Redeemer for thinking it's just a religious location. Certainly a lot of people begin to see the statue denoting faith, but that's not the only reason you ought to visit it. In my view, this is when there is an best views around town. Plus, the sculpture is basically impressive. While i lived in Rio together guests over, this was always the most recognized spot to use my list. Everyone was always amazed.

Now the downside: it's rather a hassle to get up there with there being always too many people with the same idea. Captured they stopped selling tickets on-page because sometimes you'd get to the morning and subsequently ticket was for 4 pm! It happened to me Now, make sure you buy check in online or at one of several tourist information desks spread round the city.

If you're trying to find a remarkable experience, please take a helicopter ride from Sugarloaf or Lagoa and escape the crowds. The feeling is practically unbelievable. I had the opportunity to take action once i worked being a newscaster and it's something I'll always bear in mind.

Ipanema

You've probably found out about the Girl from Ipanema, right? Yes, she really exists. And when you arrive in Ipanema you are able to know how could a new girl inspire the songwriters who does compose the most famous Brazilian songs ever.

Ipanema is trendy. It's a place packed with beauty everywhere. Filled with fashion. It's a lifestyle. This is where most young cariocas like visiting the beach. The point is always to see and be seen.

About the left you find Arpoador. In the event the ocean is right, it's going to be full of surfers. Otherwise, it gets a huge natural pool. Make sure you find for sunset. Cariocas generally gather to applaud it. To start with it happened during summer only, in the event the sunset occurs cruising (something uncommon within the colonial from the Americas). But it became something very popular that I've already experienced it also during winter. Just avoid going to the shore here on summer weekends and holidays, because it gets reeeeeaaallyyy crowded.

Around the right you see Leblon, the most sophisticated neighborhoods in Rio. From the end of Ipanema prior to the very end of Leblon, it's a Half hour walk. Both Ipanema and Leblon are excellent neighborhoods to keep and eat.

Lapa

Neglect the sophistication of Ipanema, the charm of bossa nova or the unbeatable views of Rio from up above. Lapa means Rio at its essence. From the combination of people to different styles and experiences. This can be the old Rio at its best.

Throughout the day you can go to the Selaron steps along with the night visit one of the bars to experience live music. They are all located in the old houses, which has been totally refurbished. And it's greater than music. Cariocas also relish dancing, so with regards to the location you ultimately choose in addition to their schedule you will have completely different time (experiencing the forro or a great night of rock, for example).

Generally I like to walk around and acquire in where I hear the most effective music. In case you're uncertain, you can't fail with Rio Scenarium. Just be ready to pay a BRL 50 entrance fee (on Saturdays On weekdays it's a bit cheaper).

And also you? Can you trust my top five list? What would you wish to experience? If you've been to Rio, what's your chosen attraction?
